Saplings & Oaks Grow in the Forest
Home Education program for children ages 6-12 and their caregivers
Service Description
Nature Adventures for the Sapling and Oak age groups build on sensory experiences of the younger years. We tap into the needs of the 2nd plane child to ask and find answers to big questions, care for others and the world around them, test their minds and bodies, as well as collaborate with others while they learn and play. At the start of the 6 week session children will connect with one another and the forest environment through games, art, song, etc. They will explore the land we spend time on and learn the basics of nature journaling. They will start a list of questions about the forest in fall that they want to explore. As the weeks progress children's questions will drive the programming as they gain confidence in the forest, learn new skills, use scientific tools to measure the environment, and dig further into seasonal themes. By the end of the program children will have the opportunity to use consensus building to plan their own forest exploration. Adults are asked to observe their children, engage in the lessons with their own curiosity, and support their children's personal needs. Adult discussions and resources are also included in this program. Each session takes place on Friday from 9-12 at 156 Timber Lane, Littleton, outside my home and in the adjacent Littleton Town Forest. Children and adults should be able to navigate 2 miles on uneven terrain. Participants should come prepared to get dirty and dress for the weather. There is a time set aside for a snack, but snacks are not provided. There are no bathrooms or water so participants should come with full water bottles and plan to use the woods for bathroom needs. Programs would only be cancelled in the event of extreme weather. *Notes: Siblings within the 6-11 age range can sign up for a reduced fee of 50% of the first child (you will only pay the program deposit for each +sibling). Your program balance is due via cash, check or Venmo on the first day of the program. Respectful behavior is required at all times. Children who intentionally bully or physically harm another person will not be able to complete the session. Children who cannot follow safety rules will be given 3 chances to improve behavior with our support. Failure to improve will result in removal from the session. Children are always welcome back to new sessions as they mature and adjust to the required expectations. This program begins September 16th and needs at least 5 children registered by Sept 6th to run.
